Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I hope the weather where you are is just as warm and fantastic as it is here!

I've Never Understood Why It's Called a Nut...

Ingenious bracelet idea! I love how it looks complex, yet it's so simple to make and completely wearable! Next project on my to do list....?
Road trip on spring break = 15+ hours in the car -- sounds like plenty of time!

Protos (first) -> Proteios (primary) -> proteine -> PROTEIN!

My biology book mentioned this website as the "Mecca" for Biotechnology, so logically I had to check it out! It is called the National Center for Biotechnology Information and is a government-run database linking many other science-research databases, as well as ones from foreign countries. I will admit that a large amount of their resources is a bit too "technical" for my dictionary of science jargon, but I still love trying to figure out what they mean!

So without further ado, I give you: proteins!
I only researched a few... there are literally millions you can look up!

Hydrogenase at C-Terminal

Histone (spools around which DNA wraps)

Ribonuclease H2 (involved in hydrolyzing mis-incorporated RNA in replication)

RNase H (hydrolyzes DNA and RNA hybrids)

HNA (human genome helper)

Telomerase Cdc13 in yeast

Glutamine Synthetase (Ligase)

Human Telomerase

Basic Telomerase

Basic Centromere

This one may be my favorite...
Nucleosome (genome regulation)

F Plasmid SopB Complex

Also check out their Coffee Break articles - very fascinating!

One of the Better Things in Life

As you probably know, I have kind of a thing for carrots. I was perusing the latest issue of Martha Stewart Living earlier todaysaw this picture, and knew I had to share... too good!

... possibly a new project?

Doodles. . .

Spring Spring

I'm really trying to incorporate more meaningful elements to this blog besides pretty pictures, so I'll be trying to write a little more and devote some posts to issues du jour.

So with that said, I give you.... pictures!

Love these spreads from the most recent Anthropologie mag:

Fun little spring terrarium! I definitely want to try something like this now that it's getting warmer, and the sun is actually out. The leather hanger adds a nice contrast to the simple glass too. I love how you can see through the glass, and it exposes all of the elements and components of the arrangement.

I love taking something as plain as a set of shears and using them to create an unexpected display :)

Look-alikes? Neon patio chairs and Fendi bags... who knew?

Oh and to any of my bio class readers... let me know if you want a link to Ch. 20 Learning Objectives ;)

WOOF!

I took a little adventure to the International Dog Show this weekend, mainly just to see the poodles, but I ran into some interesting pooches along the way!

This guy was enormous!

I just had to snap a pic of this guy... too good

And this guy *note the hairspray in his apron's pocket

I can't tell the difference.
(Ironically this topiary shape is called a "poodle")

We knew this one was the champion before he even came into the ring - so beautiful! He carried himself with such confidence and composure...
such masculinity amidst the pom-poms and hairspray

And I just HAD to get this one! I love when dog owners look like their dogs.

I've heard that Afghan hounds are the stupidest dogs in the world...
trade-off: looks and long silky hair vs. brains?

I called him the "rockstar" of the bunch.. the hair is perfect!
And here's the champion again - a bit pompous?
(oh and look at his little blue hair ribbons too!)

I believe the only distinguishable features here are his pom-poms

And Rockstar again!

Again where the owner looks like her dog... I wonder if they go to the same hair salon?

And then this was just too priceless to pass up
(also note the blue Ikea tote)
