Ethiopian Eats, Elly's, and Espaliers

Last night, we explored a new cuisine... Ethiopian! I must say it was very different from anything I've ever eaten before. First off, there was no silverware -- we tore off small pieces of this spongey-flat bread called injera and used it to pick up a piece of the food and eat it! It was a very foreign style of eating, but we soon got the hang of it (although we did look with envy at other pros nearby mixing different parts together all in one bite!)... I know we will definitely be trying Ethiopian cuisine out again!

Then this morning we went to a hip diner called Elly's down the street! The breakfast was great, but I especially loved the restaurant itself; it was an eclectic mishmash of chairs and funky hanging light bulbs (see pics) and it had the greatest "mosaic" wall of plates. The place had great, positive vibes and a very random assortment of people... so fun!

(my morning tea;)
They just painted the wall red (the rest are white), and I think it makes a dramatic statement.
(this picture was taken with my phone and definitely doesn't do the wall justice, but here's the general idea)
Here's a pic of the wall from the beginning of the summer before the wall change:

And then here is a fun outdoor shower picture I found on my phone from a while ago that I thought I would share (I'm sorry I have absolutely no clue where I found it... Jetsetter possibly?)

I just love the espalier trees and the tranquil setting!

Buildings, Mushrooms, and Books!

Some fun city shots I took (...in a moving car... on my phone!)

A cool mushroom in my yard (I don't know why this is underlined!)
Prettiness from J.Crew

I also saw a really great window display at Anthropologie (as usual), but I was moving too quickly to snap a shot!

Post Turkey Day Recap

I hope you all had a happy and scrumptious T-jivin! Although I was a bit too infatuated with the food to even snap pics of it, I did catch some Pilgrims and Native Americans romping around in my yard in the morning....

Kudos to Sylvester Graham (An American Advocate of Dietary Reform) ... and Martha Stewart

I have been seeing recipes for homemade graham crackers for a while, and I couldn't find one I really liked... that is until I saw the Martha Stewart's cookie of the day: Graham Crackers!

I substituted the all-purpose flour with Spelt flour to give it a heartier taste and, of course, added extra cinnamon. I also added a touch of chili pepper powder for an extra bite!

( I love the fact that the recipe doesn't call for eggs, so the dough was 100% edible!)

I don't think I rolled them out quite thin enough, so they ended up kind of like tea cookies, but I left them out for the night to stale up a bit, and they definitely tasted much better (more graham-cracker-esque)!

Happy November!

It always seems like the fall goes by too quickly, and before I know it, winter's here! Though I grumble about the cold (let's face it, who doesn't?), I do love snow -- and cute boots to romp in the snow!

Please note that not all of these are appropriate for snow, but I just really like them ;)

Jimmy Choo for Hunter (note the cute leopard lining)

Love this!
Please forgive me -- I can't remember where I found it!
If you know please comment so I can give proper credit!

And cutie little froggie!

Sorry for the lack of boots... I will have more I promise [with color]! I just got side-tracked hunting for a pair of frog rain boots I had as a kid... great way to spend a whole half hour! But seriously I can't find them ANYWHERE!
